Today I worked my last shift as a professional baker. I am leaving the position on, I think, great terms with the company and with peace in my little cream-filled heart. Not too far into the job, I injured my right arm and hand and decided - after some weeks of trying to take it easy and being frustrated with my limitations - that my physical wellbeing is more important than making cake. It's a little sad, but I will bake at home, which is where all of the love is anyhow. I think I may enjoy writing about it even more than doing it anyway...Condé Nast, are you out there?
