on tasting long-traveled fruit
I've been away from home for a few days, in a more southern clime. Last night for dessert I made a fruit salad from what was hanging around - mango, strawberry, pineapple, and clementine. I made a ginger-lemon syrup to drizzle over it and then snowed the whole thing with toasted coconut. It being the end of February and all, I was amazed at how delicious and perfect the fruit was - I only experienced guilt for a moment, before giving up to the soft, tangy, sweet taste of summer. Back home, the rain is gonna stop one of these days, I just know it.
